"As a raconteur, or storyteller, artist Sydney Gush personifies isolation, anger, and love as a way to connect individuals based on private thoughts that are never publicly shared. The immediate memories or impulsive feelings often left unspoken begin to converse as if they are escaping our own minds and entering into the greater world. Influenced by personal experiences and wild imaginations, ideas of hope, fear, angst, and passion consume these imagined characters as they reflect aspects of our own subconsciousness. The Raconteurs of Thought is a cohesive experiment between photography, typography, animation, and collage that acknowledges the many layers of Sydney’s artistic process. Utilizing Instagram as a medium, the exhibition responds to the intersection of social media in daily life in which art can relate to audiences digitally while still representing reality.
We visualize the impulsive thoughts that flash through our minds and are never spoken. These anecdotes begin to compose a fictitious narrative that has been influenced by the human experience in “The Raconteurs of Thought” as artist Sydney Gush uses these experiences as exercises in storytelling. The vignettes force us to acknowledge our own past histories of trauma, isolation, and love that unite individuals based on human experiences. Through navigating our own subconsciousness, memories mold us into who we are today as our own personal raconteurs."
